From photography to interior design
I started working in interior design in 2018, following a career in photography. I’ve always been drawn to visuals, and I love nothing more than walking into a room and seeing what it could become. I see potential everywhere, a different layout, an unexpected colour combination, a gorgeous piece of fabric or a lighting change that transforms the whole feel of a space.
Interior design has never been just a job to me. It’s something I genuinely love, and I get a real buzz from developing an idea and seeing it come to life.
My route into interior design hasn’t been a conventional one. My photography background has had a huge influence on the way I design, and years spent looking at light, composition, perspective and colour have shaped my eye and the way I see. I’ve developed my design skills through practical experience and a natural instinct for seeing what works, what could be improved and what a space could become. I’m fascinated by how light changes throughout the day, how it interacts with different materials, and how the right lighting can completely transform a room.
Interior design, down to the finishing touches
I initially offered an end-to-end service, including the decorating, but today I focus solely on interior design, from the initial ideas, space planning and renovations through to colour schemes, materials, furniture, fabrics and all the finishing touches.
And I really do mean all the finishing touches. I absolutely love designing bathrooms, choosing brassware, taps, fittings and finishes. Switches and sockets might sound like small details, but I find them just as exciting as the bigger decisions. Then there’s fabric, which I could happily spend hours exploring. Colour, texture and pattern all have the power to bring a room together and give it personality.
My approach
I don’t have one signature style, because I don’t believe every home should look the same. What I do have is a signature approach, looking beyond what’s already there, spotting the potential and finding ways to make a space feel special and individual.
